Today we’re starting on the machining of the hand scraper. One of the more interesting workholding challenges is the threaded tang. We need to hold it in a 4-jaw chuck in the lathe to take a massively interrupted cut, but we also need to keep the extra material from flapping around inside the headstock bore.
We start out in Fusion 360 and 3D print a couple of spacers to keep the stock centered, then go to the lathe to cut the tang and thread it.
